Shamita Shetty gained 5 kg before endometriosis surgery
Shamita Shetty revealed that she gained 4–5 kg before undergoing endometriosis surgery in May 2024, attributing it to severe pain, perimenopause, and water retention after months of delayed diagnosis. She shared that chronic pelvic and lower back pain, along with cysts, disrupted her workouts and daily life until she sought medical help. Experts explained that endometriosis does not directly cause significant fat gain but can lead to bloating ("endo belly"), fluid retention, hormonal changes, reduced physical activity due to pain, and medication-related weight fluctuations. They added that surgery itself does not cause long-term weight changes, though temporary fluid retention during recovery is common, and regaining fitness and losing excess weight may take months depending on hormonal balance, lifestyle, and recovery. Women experiencing persistent pelvic pain, painful periods, pain during intercourse, fertility issues, or ongoing bloating should seek medical evaluation early for timely diagnosis and treatment.
